Course Description: Health Science
The Health Science course offers a comprehensive exploration of various aspects related to health and healthcare. Through a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical assignments, students will gain an in-depth understanding of the history, development, and branches of health science, as well as the principles and strategies employed in health promotion and education.
The course aims to equip students with the necessary skills to identify and control disease outbreaks through the study of epidemiology. Students will learn about the role of epidemiological research in public health interventions and how it contributes to the overall well-being of communities. Practical assignments, such as conducting a case study on a disease outbreak, will provide real-world applications of this knowledge.
The course also delves into healthcare policy and advocacy, exploring how policy decisions impact healthcare delivery. Students will develop an understanding of the ethical considerations involved in healthcare policy and learn how to advocate for policy changes. Through the practical assignment of writing a policy brief, students will critically analyze the impact of a specific healthcare policy change and examine its ethical implications.
Furthermore, the course covers global health issues and their effects on populations worldwide. Students will examine the role of international organizations in addressing these challenges and gain insights into the socio-economic and cultural determinants of health in different countries. The comparative analysis of healthcare systems in two different countries will allow students to evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, and potential areas of improvement in each system, while considering relevant socio-economic and cultural factors.
Grading for the course will be based on the thoroughness of research, analysis, and the ability to apply learned concepts to practical assignments. By the end of the course, students will have a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted field of health science, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to the improvement of healthcare delivery and public health.
