Sports Rules & Officiating

Course Objectives

Students will:

  1. Read and interpret official rulebooks. (ELA.10.R.1.1 – Analyze how setting, events, conflict, and character development contribute to meaning.)

  2. Explain rules and procedures clearly in written and oral formats. (ELA.K12.EE.3.1 – Make inferences, draw conclusions, and explain reasoning.)

  3. Demonstrate officiating mechanics and signals for each sport. (PE.912.C.2.5 – Apply rules, procedures, and etiquette in sports.)

  4. Evaluate controversial calls and defend decisions with textual evidence from rulebooks. (ELA.K12.EE.5.1 – Use reasoning and evidence to support claims.)

  5. Collaborate in mock games as officials, coaches, and players. (ELA.K12.EE.6.1 – Participate in discussions, building on others’ ideas.)
